Mustn't read Wodehouse at work. People start to wonder why the bally hell I'm talking like that, what. :D

Note to self: Do not engage housekeepers who work in hospitals in conversation over dinner. Severed limbs are sure to come up in the conversation. :/

My friend from work made me do it. I thought it was pretty good, considering I can't draw stuff like that...

see? )

Oh no!

I've been out of Pirates fandom way too long, clearly. I missed Talk Like A Pirate Day! :( I could have made dozens of people look at me strangely, and worn a single big dangly earring. Dang.

I need a flaily icon, because I have EXPLODED with JOY!!! I have won [livejournal.com profile] yamx in the Support Stacie September Auction, in which you can bid for your favorite authors to write to prompts for a really excellent cause. And I really did run around the living room waving my arms and making stupid noises.

by a grill cook, forced to work early.

Oh cruel light of day
that follows sleepless night!
Rosy-fingered Dawn
creeps o'er the rim of earth
only to provoke the horrid little birds
to uncouth twitters...
I shut my eyes to you.

Why must I drag my crumbling,
from the dark den I lay them in?
Only to stuff the gaping maws
of every greedy thug
with two dollars to pay
for their encrusted greasy portion?

Oh, yeah, the rent.

Anyone out there want some old zines? Free to a good home. I'm moving and I'd like to get rid of some Man from UNCLE, Blake's 7, and Real Ghostbusters zines. Slash and gen. I'm willing to ship within continental US, or out of the country if you'd like to negotiate shipping costs. Of course I don't think there are more than like, two people who will ever see this offer, but I'm much too lazy to advertise! Feel free to point me out to anyone you think would be interested, and don't be shy if you're a complete stranger. These things have just been sitting on a shelf for years...

OH NOOOOO. :( I had this really nifty shot glass with skull and crossbones on it, that my friend bought for me on a cruise... and, and, I put it in the dishwasher, and the piratey decoration is GONE! It is a boring plain shotglass now. ::cries:: There's really no POINT in drinking if I can't drink out of a piratey shotglass! I feel so betrayed.

Really no reason to get up today, except the caffeine headache. I used to like having days off... :(

Song lyrics, not a file. I do not have the technology. :D

I was eating sunflower seeds today, and found a petrified bug in one of them... Urgh.

At least it wasn't half a bug...

In lighter news, I am watching lots of Star Trek! I've grown accustomed to looking for subtext in movies and tv shows that are a little more... subtle... than the Kirk/Spock dynamic I've been seeing. It's just awesome and hilarious all at once. And people were surprised by the slash?

I am so sorry, but I must share this poem now. Because I like graveyards.

By a Stranger's Grave

It's cool in the shade here.
Just two steps away
the sun is a white-yellow hammer.
Here by your tombstone,
it's cool in the shade.

I linger only breathing
by a half-familiar stranger's name
engraved in stone,
an enigmatic song without a tune.
We are resting long-forgotten,
the two of us together.

I breathe the wet scent
of broken weeds bleeding green-ness,
taste you on the wind,
heavy and silent as honeysuckle.
White and yellow honeysuckle!
Climbing by the wall there,
shadows grasping spears and stars
of precious color.

Found this while rummaging. Posting is how I avoid the packing I should be doing. :)

1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your favorite song.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to these questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in your own post.
5. When others respond with a random comment, you will ask them five questions.

I have to confess... I got into this by mistake. Jen wrote something in her answers that delighted me so much I commented on it without thinking! As always my best entertainment is my own dippiness. This was fun, though, so I don't regret it.

This is the beginning of a fic I may or may not finish. I know it has problems, but if anyone cares to point them out to me I'd be grateful. What works? What doesn't?
